EV Warranty in Saudi Arabia: What's Covered, What's Not, and How to Stay Protected

Electric vehicle warranties in Saudi Arabia can be confusing, especially with the mix of official dealership vehicles, parallel imports, and used EVs in the market. This guide breaks down everything you need to know about EV warranty coverage.
Manufacturer warranties vary significantly by brand. Tesla offers 4 years/80,000 km on the vehicle and 8 years/192,000 km on the battery. BYD offers a lifetime battery warranty in some markets, but this may not apply to vehicles imported to Saudi Arabia. Mercedes EV warranty is typically 2 years with extended options. Chinese imports often come with limited or no warranty valid in the Kingdom.
What manufacturer warranties typically cover: battery defects and significant capacity loss (usually below 70% of original capacity within the warranty period), electric motor and drivetrain components, power electronics and inverters, onboard charging equipment, and standard vehicle components.
What warranties typically DON'T cover: normal battery degradation (gradual range loss is expected), damage from accidents or flooding, modifications or aftermarket parts, damage from using non-approved chargers, and wear items like tires, brakes, and wiper blades.
The warranty gap: Many EVs in Saudi Arabia fall into a warranty gap — they either never had a Saudi-valid warranty (Chinese imports) or their original warranty has expired. This leaves owners exposed to potentially massive repair costs, especially for battery issues that can cost SAR 30,000-100,000.
EVS Extended Warranty: We've designed our warranty products to fill this gap. Our Extended Warranty covers vehicles whose manufacturer warranty has expired, while our Comprehensive Warranty is built for vehicles that never had Saudi warranty coverage. Both cover: high-voltage battery, electric drivetrain, power electronics, onboard computer systems, AC compressor, and charging system.
How to protect your warranty: Keep all service records, use qualified service centers (like EVS) for maintenance, don't modify your vehicle's electrical system without professional guidance, and follow the manufacturer's maintenance schedule. At EVS, all our services include detailed digital records that protect your warranty status.
If you're buying a used EV, ask about remaining warranty coverage. If there's none, factor in the cost of an EVS warranty when calculating the true cost of the vehicle. A few thousand riyals in warranty premium can save you from a six-figure repair bill.
