Home EV Charger Installation in Saudi Arabia: Everything You Need to Know

Installing a home EV charger is one of the best investments you can make as an EV owner in Saudi Arabia. No more waiting at public chargers — just plug in when you get home and wake up to a full battery every morning. Here's everything you need to know.

First, understand the charger levels. Level 1 charging uses a standard household outlet (220V in Saudi Arabia) and adds about 8-10 km of range per hour. This is painfully slow for most EVs. Level 2 chargers use a dedicated circuit and can charge at 7.4 kW (single phase) or up to 22 kW (three phase), adding 40-80 km per hour. For most Saudi EV owners, a 7.4 kW Level 2 charger is the sweet spot — it fully charges most EVs overnight.

Before installation, you need a site assessment. A certified electrician needs to check your electrical panel capacity, wiring condition, and the distance from the panel to your parking spot. In newer Saudi homes and villas, the electrical infrastructure is usually sufficient for a Level 2 charger. Older buildings may need a panel upgrade.

Choosing the right charger matters. Look for chargers with these features: a Type 2 connector (standard in Saudi Arabia for non-Tesla EVs), at least IP54 weather protection rating for outdoor installation, built-in safety features like ground fault protection, and ideally WiFi connectivity for monitoring your charging sessions and costs.

For Tesla owners, the Tesla Wall Connector is the obvious choice. For other EV brands, reputable charger manufacturers include ABB, Schneider Electric, EVBox, and Wallbox. At EVS, we supply and install chargers from multiple brands, ensuring compatibility with your specific vehicle.

Cost considerations: A complete Level 2 home charger installation in Saudi Arabia typically costs between SAR 2,500 and SAR 5,000, including the charger unit, installation labor, and all materials. Three-phase installations or long cable runs may cost more. However, the convenience and time savings easily justify the investment — especially when you calculate the cost per kWh at home versus at public fast chargers.

At EVS, we offer end-to-end charger installation services. Our team handles the site assessment, charger selection, installation, testing, and user training. We also provide a 1-year warranty on installation. Contact us to schedule your home charger installation today.
